Random points on marriage
- In all my over 3 decades since inception, anytime a relative of any kind brought their would be spouse to my parents, they were always received with love, without question and most importantly with prayers. This idea of testing people’s children to see their character, I don’t think its right and it seems lazy. If you can pray enough, God Himself will set the parameters that will help PROVE the individual’s capacity and capabilities. THEN the choice is yours because they WILL manifest. Yorubas say “character is like smoke”. It will seep out and it cant be hidden for long. If any family tests you with pieces of meat, truckloads of clothes to wash and how much alcohol you can chug in one sitting, I personally do not think that’s a place you want to be.
- Sadly, in laws are now synonymous with evil in this clime. It ought not to be so. Our ideas of drawing boundaries are not really scriptural per se. Some of us are actually not drawing boundaries. What we actually want is control and isolation. ONE year into the marriage you will discover that NO MAN is an island. When the babies come and you hire a nanny who will either start winking at your man or have the effrontery breastfeeding your own baby in your absence, you’ll see the blessing of Mothers in-law.
- Accept assistance, take gifts BUT never sell your soul nor let it becloud your judgement or the truth. As long as your principles are enmeshed in the word and the word is not compromised, always remember that “to the pure all things are pure” and “everything is sanctified by word and by prayer” (Titus 1:15, 1Timothy 4:4-5)
- I went for an event. A queenly humble woman sat to eat at an event of her own relative. Sitting around and beside this lovely woman, were THREE of her children’s spouses mothers. Talk about peace and relationship…but no, when we marry peoples children, we want to use cutlass to severe their families away and become a god to them.
Remember this; God sets the solitary in FAMILIES and God is the One by Whom every family of the earth are named (Psalms 68:6, Ephesians 3:15). He’s The God of families. Call on Him before stepping into one.
Have a great week???
