Scary Safety Moments
So I was due to board a local flight and was running incredibly late – 5 minutes to departure is when I arrived the airport. I had said a silent prayer, asking God to please help delay the flight.
I ran to the check-in counter. When I got there, I was insistently told by the airport agent that I had checked in and collected my boarding pass. I said “I dudint year you very well”. He kept pointing at his screen, saying he’d checked me in. I was forced to firm up my tone for special effects, insisting otherwise. So he said not to worry, as he’d check me in again and give me my boarding pass and he’ll go after the impostor who checked in in my name.
Cutting a long story short, I boarded the flight and sat by the window, given my pass directed me to “8A”. Not too long after, the plane was already full, this elderly man walks up to my row and points at me (or my seat), saying “that’s my seat”. My automatic response was “No sir, it’s mine”. He insisted firmly again. My home training and respect for elders started kicking in quick! However, my sense of justice, equity and righteousness promptly waged war against it.
I instantly remembered the story of a prominent prolific writer in Nigeria who sat in the window seat of a young man, whom we all judged for telling this notable man to please leave his seat.
It became apparent that this elderly man was the one who checked in with my name (or someone did on his behalf). Why? Till now, I don’t know.
Two things I noticed though, I asked for the flight to be delayed and God heard me. However, if I had no such request, someone checking in on my name would have meant it still wouldn’t have been late for me to board the flight even last minute. Either way, whether by our requests or by His design, God’s got us ???
Back to the elderly man abi? Before I conclude that one, what would you have done? ??♀️
