Blinding Familiarity
John The Baptist admitted TWICE that he didn’t know Jesus. Now how in the world was that possible?! Their mothers were cousins. John’s mother discerned the baby that was in Mary whilst she (Elizabeth) carried John in the womb. Yet John says he didn’t know Jesus…hmm. I checked the word “know” and what he meant. He meant “I didn’t pay attention to Him. I didn’t consider, perceive, inspect Him”. He knew his cousin, knew they were related but had no clue He was to be The Christ. And God The Master of all told him in paraphrase “when it’s time, I will show you who The Christ is” and boom?️, it was like a curtain removed from John’s eyes, he saw The Spirit of God descend on Jesus AND remained with Him…”ah! that’s him?! My cousin?!” But the proof was unmistakable. I can imagine the look on Jesus face?
Perhaps mischievous but forgiving and understanding – “Not a problem. I understand” and John’s mouth hanging open???
Admonition – be careful of “family” you have around you; loved ones, past events, things you’re FAMILIAR with you’ve taken for granted, who’s history you can trace. Be careful of family in the body of Christ who their destiny has been hidden from your eyes. That person you’re not paying attention to, that husband you wake up to everyday or wife you have seen finish, that brother or sister or even projects, there’s greater yet to be revealed to you about them. Pay attention! You may get a rude shock tomorrow ESPECIALLY if you have mistreated or disdained them. God help you…and God help me too?
